It’s traditional to hang decorations from your front door, or front of your house, for the new year. Depending on what they are made of they have different names and different purposes – keeping away bad spirits, welcoming good spirits. Some can be as simple as a printed piece of paper distributed by the local neighborhood association welcoming in the new year. It’s sort of like Christmas wreathes in the U.S. which are uncommon, though not unheard of.
This is an assortment I saw in my neighborhood this morning on while on my way to the supermarket.
