Nice walk by the sakura in full bloom

Yesterday’s walk with Pao by the Nakagawa. The sakura are still in full bloom. I haven’t been to any other places this year to check out the sakura. They are still advising against hanami at busy locations. But this is nice enough. Fairly peaceful (unless a motorcycle drives by and Pao leaps at it). We met another dog and he nearly ripped my finger off grabbing at a snack, which made me appreciate for the first time how gentle Pao is when taking food from strangers’ hands.

More sakura, Pao and Facebook update

The sakura along the Nakagawa are definitely starting to bloom. It’s a lot more than 1% now. Maybe 5 or 10%. I doubt if it will be in full bloom by the weekend, but soon! Here are a few photos from my walk yesterday.

My account at Facebook remains disabled. I’m ok with the groups at Reddit for things like Whole Food Plant Based healthy eating, and war discussions, and so on. But I wonder what’s the best way to share little things with my extended circle of friends: old friends from college and grad school, friends from work at Fujitsu, and an extended circle of ex-pat friends in Japan going back decades? I can’t flood them with blog post emails multiple times a day. I would be fine not getting back into Facebook if there was an easy way to just share stuff. I guess I turned into a “sharing” type of person. Maybe I’ll just set something up at my private label social network and say, “visit if you are interested” and see who comes. People are resistant to joining “yet another” site though.

For once-ever-few-days sharing people are welcome to subscribe to my blog here.

Here I’m trying to make breakfast and Pao is sitting by my feet, in front of the sink. I’m stepping over him and moving around him, but he’s not moving at all.

And here are some sakura along the Nakagawa during my afternoon Pao walk.

I turned this live photo into a GIF. What actually happened was Pao saw a dog he likes from his viewing position on the stair landing. He ran down the stairs and out the door, then down the front staircase, chasing after his friend! I needed to grab a leash and run after him. Side-note on GIFs: Apparently the creator of GIF files passed away yesterday. And yes, the correct pronunciation of the file format is JIF.

A few sakura in bloom, and a note about Facebook

During a cold, afternoon walk I saw a few sakura in bloom. I think it’s still around one percent. Maybe in another week it will get closer to full bloom. Here are a few today. The first two were shot in macro mode up really close. I love how that feature works. The warmer weather should rebound tomorrow.

Because of last week’s earthquake, and the sudden extreme cold (it snowed yesterday!) Tokyo has been on a possible power shortage alert. While peak usage reached 103% I think there were no power failures though.

In other news, my Facebook account has been disabled for the fourth time! Again, there was no explanation, and no mention of violations. I received a code on my iPhone, then uploaded a photo and ID to verify identity yesterday. Now I’m just waiting. It’s annoying because it cuts me off from various friends and also disables my Messenger account. Anyway, by now people know how to reach me otherwise (email, iMessage, LINE, WhatsApp, and text to my U.S. number too).

I’d really like to just get away from Facebook, but the problem is everybody has accounts there, and people are resistant to creating new general social network accounts elsewhere. And if I post miscellaneous tidbits of this and that to my blog it would swamp subscribers. On the plus side, it’s felt nice and quiet (except for Pao’s hyper-reactivity to sounds outside) and I could relax and get more work done.

This tree along the river always seems to bloom first. The others are just showing buds so far.
