Last week at an antique coin shop I like in Asakusa, I found this Tenpo era coin. The catalogue shows it’s from Tenpo 6 – that’s 1837.

Today there are strong winds, what are called haru ichiban here in Japan. It always happens around the vernal equinox, which is this coming Friday. It truly demarcates the break of winter and the beginning of spring. It’s beautiful outside. Really windy, but beautiful.
