Odori in Asakusa on a cold, rainy Labor Thanksgiving Day
Yesterday was Labor Thanksgiving Day in Japan. While the weather has been great lately, it was rainy and cold all day yesterday and I could not take Pao out for a walk.
My realtor, Junko Maehara, has also become a neighborhood friend, and she invited us to an Odori (Japanese dance) performance at the Asakusa Public Hall for the dance group she’s a member of. It was really fascinating! Here are some photos of Asakusa on a cold, rainy night and some videos I took of Maehara-san dancing. I thought she was great! And the atmosphere was unique. Our seats were by the runway in the back, so we also had some interesting views of performers leaving and entering the stage.
There were special gigantic, atmospheric Japanese props that came down from the ceiling. Amazing lighting effects. A live band and singers too! Like a Japanese broadway show I imagine.
A cold, rainy night in Asakusa. Actually it’s not that late. This is around 5 pm.
