The Republican Party is self-imploding
There is no point in writing parody news pieces about the election anymore. The GOP is a self-parody. The party astounds me with their sheer level of ignorance. They even seem to revel in their ignorance.
Todd Akins is standing firm. Paul Ryan co-sponsored multiple bills with him, including an attempt to re-define rape. Akins, even today, in making the rounds of conservative radio talk shows continued to claim that women fake being raped in order to make it easier to get abortions. Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council reiterated his support for Akins.
And get this – Romney has supported the person who is the source of Akin’s theory, Dr. Jack C. Willke, the oft-cited source of the theory that rape-related pregnancies are “rare” because women have a way of shutting down pregnancies if they are “really raped.” The theory is used by antiabortion advocates to argue that abortion laws should not contain exceptions for pregnancies that result from rape or incest.
“Dr. Willke is a leading voice within the pro-life community and will be an important surrogate for Governor Romney’s pro-life and pro-family agenda,” the Romney campaign said in an October 2007 statement.
The symbol of the GOP should be lemmings instead of an elephant.
