I saw these tiny, but intricate flowers in my neighborhood yesterday. My friend, Mary Lou, says they are called lantana.

They almost look like colored Lilacs. The Flower petal is the same as a lilac.
Your friend is right! I looked them up and they are the same as the picture.

Lantana is a common landscaping plant in my part of California and we have two different types in our own yard. But I have never seen that particular color before, perhaps it is a species or cultivar unique to Japan.
The pic I saw, had all different colors.
Well, you two have both exceeded my entire lifetime’s botany knowledge already.

The famous physicist Enrico Fermi was once asked how he could remember all the elementary particles and he replied that he couldn’t. If he had a good enough memory to do that he would be a botanist.
