May 7 update on Japan earthquake, tsunami and nuclear power plant
Some summary statistics so far:
– Confirmed dead: 14,755
– Missing (mostly presumed dead): 10,706
– Destroyed buildings: 45,700
Earthquakes:
– Since 3/11 there have been 1,152 earthquakes of magnitude 4.0 or greater.
– Yesterday (Friday 5/6) there were 8 earthquakes of M4.6 or greater, including 3 earthquakes greater than M5, the largest being M5.6. Because of location, I only felt 2 of them, and they seemed like minor shakes.

Tepco increases the water being pumped into the No. 1 reactor at the crippled Fukushima power plant to submerge its damaged fuel and provide a stabler way of cooling it.
