All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go
As to whether there will be a taxi waiting at my door, I’ll decide later. I may try the bus to the station. It’s 8:30 AM, and I don’t have to leave my house until nearly 2.
My older suitcase was uncomfortably full, plus I didn’t think the soft fabric sides were especially protective. So I went over at the last minute yesterday to Yodobashi Camera in Kinshicho and bought a new suitcase yesterday. The sides are more protective, it has more compartments, plus it has a TSA approved locks.
But even the new suitcase was “uncomfortably full” I thought, so I went a’hunting in closets and found this really nice Samsonite sort of combination “duffel bag on wheels” that you can either hand carry or turn on its side and wheel with a handle. I forgot I had that. It’s really nice.
So I stuffed all my clothes and bath stuff into that, and more leisurely repacked the other suitcase, which contains all the omiyage plus some electronics and more important stuff (but too much to carry on) into the new bag and padded it with some soft stuff to keep everything safe. Doing it this way I even had enough room to put a couple of older iPads I wanted to take with me, and my Nexus 7, in their original boxes for extra protection.
I think I’m nearly done. But need to do bank errands since it’s the end of the month, and I want to make sure my Japanese bank accounts have enough money in them to last for a couple of months.
Mon and Monta seem pretty excited. I think they know I’m going on a trip.
I am looking forward to seeing Sue. Also the Lafayette Square summer garden and house tour and associated activities are going to take place in another week, so for the first time in a long time I’ll be able to see that. Check out this link, it’s really interesting.
St. Louis is an interesting city, and very historic, but I’m afraid I really won’t have time to spend visiting things, because my main purpose in going is to visit Sue and help out!
Whoa,
Get a reminder from Twitter, I check in for the first time in years, and there your are, and Nancy too – on top of “people I may find interesting!” Wild! 🙂
Have a safe and Great trip, Doug! Have never been to St. Louis myself, but would love to, one day.
Please give Sue a hug from me! Anything I can do to help?
Best regards,
Lars
